SHLLSHKR

SHLLSHKR is the multidisciplinary artistic practice of Shela Yu, a Taiwanese American artist working across painting, design, and murals.

SHLLSHKR is an action.

Shake the shell—the human vessel—in order to loosen fixed identities and invite transformation. The work is grounded in the belief that the self is not static, but something continually shaped through movement, ritual, memory, and experience.

Born and raised in the desert of the American Southwest in Mesa, Arizona, Yu’s practice is informed by her Chinese heritage, and negotiating an ongoing relationship to place and history. Her work draws from landscape, myth, and dreams—blending cultural memory with personal inquiry to create visual worlds that speculate how ancestry meets the present.

At its core, SHLLSHKR is a practice of integration:

sound and image

self and environment

personal and collective

Additionally, she teaches workshops that guide participants to access their own creative healing through identity and voice.

SHLLSHKR is based in Phoenix, Arizona.
